Notes from last week

GOED Small Business Disaster Loan

  •  You can find out all the information you need by going to their website (https://sdreadytowork.com/)
  • Will need a simple acknowledgement from your banker or CPA  you have talked about your COVID-19 financial impact with them
  • They expect a high demand on this program, they have had over 100 applicants apply already Joe Fiala estimates the turnaround time on the application to first payment is about a week.
  • A company’s physical headquarters has to be in SD
  • Application is on their website. Feel free to reach out to your business development representative if you have any questions.

SBA Funding

  • HMMI & Quality Wood Designs have been approved. HMMI noted the process is a bit cumbersome so be sure to lean on your banker and have your documents in order
  • Local community banks have been a huge help
  • Amy Arndt, an attorney in Sioux Falls with Ballard Spahr, mentioned that if you apply for PPP and have laid off employees, make sure your workforce is back up to where it was by June 2020. The funds should primarily be spent on your workforce, but it can also be used for rent and other areas up to a certain percentage. Make sure you are aware of the parameters so that your loan is truly forgiven at the end of the time frame

COVID-19 Small Business Support Initiative Webinars https://www.usd.edu/business/covid-19-business-support

Be aware that FEMA has started putting restrictions on exporting PPEs

Updates to Cleanliness / Prevention Policies

  •  Watertown Box removed employees punching in and out because of the high touch point. If employees are working overtime, it is their responsibility to talk to their supervisor.
  • Care19 App -  free mobile app that can identify people who may have had contact with people who have tested positive for COVID-19
  • Thermal Imaging Technology - can measure people’s temperature in real time
  • Dual camera system using facial recognition and thermal imaging to track employees as they enter the facility through a designated area to check body temperature. If an employee has a temperature above a certain threshold you can pull him or her aside instead of checking hundreds of employees manually.
  • Cost is thought to be just under $20,000
  •  Sioux Steel, Marmen Energy, and Vermeer are going to start taking temps of employees
  • HMMI started taking employees temps last week
  • Tech Ord using Fastenal in Watertown as a cleaning supplier
  • Plans on documenting and evaluating whether or not they believe an employee could have contracted the virus at company, so they can present records to OSHA in good faith if need to later

Absenteeism -

What is everyone seeing? How do you prevent it from happening?

  • Vermeer - 15%
  • Sioux Steel - 12-15%
  • Showplace - 20% total, including employees taking time off for vacation and executive order
  • L.G. Everist - loosened up PTO rules for employees to feel more comfortable

Scott Rysdon mentioned peak is expected sooner rather than later. Data is showing the peak will hit Sioux Falls in the next few weeks instead of months

Luck obtaining thermometers?

  • Tech Ord - Amazon
  • HMMI - local community health center

Supply Chain - mostly okay for everyone so far. Linda from HMMI mentioned they are seeing more customer delays in waiting to pick up their products
